Meet the team

Welcome to Rotherham Golf Club! Our golf team brings together a perfect blend of talent, passion, and dedication. Get ready to meet the team who make our club proud!

Gregg Roberts -

Gregg has 37 years experience in the industry having started out as an Assistant professional in 1987. After becoming a fully qualified PGA professional in 1990 Gregg went on to become the head Professional at Heworth Golf Club in York, moving onto Dore & Totley Golf Club in Sheffield, before returning to the club he was a member at as a Junior, Rotherham Golf Club.

Gregg retired as the Head Professional at Rotherham in early 2023 to spend more time with his family and strike a better work life balance. But when the opportunity arose to return to his home club to form part of the Professional team on a part time basis in September 2024, it was an opportunity he couldn't refuse.

"Rotherham Golf Club is a special club with many fond memories going right back to my Junior days there in the 80's. When I was asked if I would come back and help form part of the new Professional team I couldn't say no. The team Rotherham have assembled covers many years experience, with all the necessary skills covered to form a formidable team, I am really looking forward to meeting back up with the members and helping to deliver industry leading levels of customer service."

James Freeman

"I am James Freeman and I am a PGA Fellow Status Coach which comes highly reputable within the PGA. I have been a professional for 15 years, during that time I have won 79 PGA events under the Great British and Irish PGA banner, I have competed as high as the European Challenge Tour and still have an ambition to keep playing and play as high as I can which I feel adds to the experience of being a current modern playing coach that is still on the same journey as you the player.

My Coaching Philosophy is about enabling the player to ‘own’ their golf game by understanding their individual technique and what works for them. I am very much a believer in coaching the individual and certainly don’t have a method of “one size fits all” coaching. I help the player understand ball flights and how certain factors affect these. My goal is to provide everyone the opportunity to reach their goals whatever they may be.

Following career threatening back surgery in 2013, I learned that injury prevention was of paramount importance for any golfer, no matter their standard of play or physical condition. I offer a very rounded and personalised coaching service for both members and non-members they include technical, physical, mental and course management and also a golf specific fitness aspect as well. My clients range from absolute beginners to scratch golfers including both elite and professionals alike. I also incorporate the most up to date technology and techniques that will meet the needs of every golfer.

I pride myself on developing players of all levels and have had great mentors along the way from the likes of Graham Walker, Paul Farquarson and Mark Bull who are all at the top of their respective fields.

I look forward to working with you and helping you develop YOUR golf game."
